As generative AI technology continues to advance at breakneck speed, researchers warn that the resulting e-waste could be staggering—potentially exceeding the equivalent of 10 billion discarded iPhones annually by 2030. A study by Cambridge University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences predicts that e-waste from AI could soar from approximately 2.6 thousand tons in 2023 to between 400 kilotons and 2.5 million tons in just a few years.
